MahaShivratri represents and celebrates the union of Shiva and Shakti. It is that auspicious time of the year when the alignment of the stars makes it possible for one to experience Universal Consciousness with relative ease. The vibrations from chanting“Om Namah Shivay” during this New moon night, the darkest night of the year, brings about a total alignment of the five elements (Panchabhuta):
Earth (Na), Water (Ma), Fire (Śi), Pranic Air (Vā) and Space(Ya)
The five letters also represent Na – Lord’s concealing grace, Ma-The World, Śi- Shiva, Vā -His revealing grace, Ya- The Atman or Soul. Essentially meaning “I honour the divinity within me.”
The chanting of the five letters representing the five elements(pancha bhutas) can relax and rejuvenate one’s Mind, Body and Spirit. One can experience a sense of connect and Oneness with the divine and let go of all the stress, negativity and cut the karmic cord that holds one back.
Through this Sadhana one can strike a balance between the Yin and Yang – the dark and light energy, also symbolic of Shiva and Shakti. It helps channelize the Qi (Chi – life force), the Static and Dynamic energies, and the rising of the kundalini shakti to Sahastrar is made possible experiencing Total Union or Oneness during this period .
